Florida Science Olympiad has a number of professional development options.  Workshops are designed based on your needs, focusing either on specific events or general team preparation.  All workshops are open to teachers and parents and are hands-on and completely interactive. 

Individualized Workshops:

Six-hour workshops are $1000 for schools within a two hour drive of Orlando, and $1200 outside of two hours. Up to 30 teachers can be accommodated per workshop. The workshops are 6 hours long or can be customized to your time needs.  Contact Mike McKee at mmckee@creol.ucf.edu to schedule a workshop.

National Coaches Workshops:

Florida Science Olympiad is partnering with NorCal Science Olympiad and MSOE in Milwaukee to offer three Coaches Conferences for teachers, parents, and students.  These workshops will be 2 days long with multiple breakout sessions of all 23 events in each division.  Learn from judges from across the nation and take away helpful preparation tips for students.   Cost is 125 per person.  Includes dinner on Friday night, breakfast and lunch on Saturday.  Register now!

FLORIDA SCIENCE OLYMPIAD: INTRODUCTION, FOOD SCIENCE, BALLOON RACE AND MORE

How do you integrate the state standards and benchmarks into your classroom in a fun and exciting way?  Do Science Olympiad!  Science Olympiad is an integrated science program for middle and high school students. In this introductory workshop, learn how you can set up a team, prepare your students and compete with other schools from around the state.  Even if you don’t compete on a state or regional level, learn how you can run this activity at the school level to grow interest in your science program and engage the students to prepare for FCAT- Science.  Note:  There will be two concurrent workshops on this date only - one will be for experienced coaches, one for those new to Science Olympiad. Target Grades: 6-12; Hours: 6

 

FLORIDA SCIENCE OLYMPIAD: ENGINEERING

Learn how to use bridges, boomilevers and other devices that students build and create to teach critical thinking and problem solving. Science Olympiad events are designed to challenge students, make them examine their successes and failures and develop theories to create successful devices tested at the Florida Science Olympiad. Learn how you can use these devices in your classroom to grow interest in your science program and engage the students to prepare for FCAT- Science.    Target Grades: 6-12; Hours: 6.

 

FLORIDA SCIENCE OLYMPIAD:  PHYSICS/CHEMISTRY
Learn how to prepare your students for the various physics and/or chemistry events that Science Olympiad has to offer, from simple circuits to Balloon Race, this workshop is hands-on and gives insight into each event so they are adequately prepared for FSO and for the FCAT-Science Test.  This workshop can be tailor designed to fit your needs and can be a combination of physics, chemistry or a little of both.  Target Grades:  6-12; Hours: 6.   
 

 

FLORIDA SCIENCE OLYMPIAD: LIFE AND CHEMICAL SCIENCES

How do you engage students with fun activities in the biological and chemical sciences so they get interested in science? Science Olympiad is the answer.  In this workshop, learn how to use Science Olympiad events in biology and chemistry to spark excitement and engage the students in critical thinking and problem solving.  Emphasis in this workshop is on the development of lab methodologies and problem solving.  Even if you don’t compete in the Science Olympiad, learn how you can use these techniques in your classroom to increase interest in your science program and engage the students to prepare for FCAT- Science.  Target Grades: 6-12; Hours: 6.
