FSO Open
On October 23, 2004, Florida Science Olympiad will host the first FSO Open. The purpose is to encourage students to test designs and receive constructive feedback from judges in a competitive environment so that they are better prepared for the regional, state, and national competitions.
Unlike the regional state and national competitions, a school may enroll as many students as they would like in each event. There are no limits. For example, a school may send all 15 students to compete in Bridge Building, or Bottle Rockets. Afterwards, judges will give students feedback on how well their designed performed, what their strengths or weaknesses were, and how they can make improvements for future competitions. In this way, the learning circle is closed by receiving feedback from Science Olympiad.
Only a limited number of events will be run, most of which will be the engineering events along with events like Experimental Design, which has many elements in common with most of the laboratory based events.
TENTATIVE LIST OF EVENTS for updates:
The cost of entering the FSO Open is $10 per student or $75 per team (15 students maximum per team.) Download the form below and then sign up your students. Each student should select the events that he or she is interested in entering. This does not commit the student to that particular event. It is used only to gauge interest and for us to determine the number of judges we need for each event.
